Shenzhen makes contribution to poverty alleviation in Du'an

Since 2016, financial and social assistance totaling more than 290 million yuan ($41 million) from three sources - Baoan district, Shenzhen, and Guangdong province - has been helping 132.8 million people in 82 poverty-stricken villages in Du'an Yao autonomous county, Hechi escape poverty.

Baoan district has deepened exchanges and cooperation with Du'an in terms of financial support, talent support, industrial cooperation, and labor cooperation after the two parties signed a cooperation agreement. With the help of Baoan district, the incidences of poverty in Du'an fell from 26.64 percent to 3.36 percent in three years.

Since 2016, Du'an has received a total of 214 million yuan in financial funds from Baoan district, helping develop its poverty-relief industries, promote compulsory education, basic medical treatment, housing safety, and drinking water safety, as well as build a number of projects which benefited 22,300 poor households. Baoan district has also introduced six enterprises to settle in Du'an, with a total investment of 599 million yuan.

Since 2016, 122 communities, enterprises, and social organizations in Baoan district have assisted 104 poor villages in Du'an. Eight schools and eight hospitals in Baoan sent 105 teachers and doctors to Du'an to teach and provide medical services. A total of 81.96 million yuan has been donated to the county to provide support for dilapidated house renovations and safe drinking water.

In addition, Shenzhen has set up a labor cooperation workstation in Du'an, and has organized 119 enterprises to hold eight recruitment fairs, helping more than 6,300 poor people find jobs in Guangdong. It has also promoted 373 junior and high school graduates conduct further education in Shenzhen and carried out skills training for the poor.
