Yangzhou hosted a tasting event of famous kinds of green tea recently, inviting experts in planting, making green tea and tea lovers to exchange ideas.

A total of 22 kinds of green tea featured at the event were chosen from over 60 varieties from all over the country. Both high quality and poor kinds of tea were included, with experts asked to show how to distinguish between them.

As a major producer and consumer of tea, China is working to deepen cultural exchanges surrounding tea and allow more people to enjoy lives accompanied by tea.

Experts said for high-quality green tea, the leaves should be bright and clean. After brewing, they should smell elegantly. The color of the brewed tea should be clean and bright, and the taste should highlight the freshness and sweetness of green tea.

Yangzhou is a city in Jiangsu province renowned for its long history, picturesque scenery, laid-back lifestyle and zaocha culture. Literally translated as "morning tea", zaocha offers locals the prospect of a pleasant morning spent sipping aromatic tea and sampling tasty delicacies.

Wu Dadong, one of the top tea tasters in China, said that as the public awareness of tea culture has been increased in recent years, more platforms and activities are required for Chinese tea-growers to expand in domestic and foreign markets.
