Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, plans to establish the Quzhou Institute of Medical (Pharmaceutical) Innovation in collaboration with Wenzhou Medical University (WMU), local media reported on May 15.

The decision was made during an investigative trip by Li Xiaokun, president of WMU and chief scientist of the National Engineering Research Center for Genetically Engineered Drugs.

Both parties signed the Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement between the Quzhou Municipal Government and Wenzhou Medical University.

The Quzhou Institute of Medical (Pharmaceutical) Innovation is part of the agreement, and the two parties will also establish a center for medical academicians.

According to the agreement, the Quzhou government and WMU will work together to improve clinical medicine and education in Quzhou, establish a WMU affiliated hospital and a training center for general practitioners, and organize training sessions for health management and continuing education.

The two parties will also create a medical center for promoting industry-university-institute cooperation and bringing scientific and technological achievements to market.

WMU is a "key priority development university" of Zhejiang province. As one of the most competitive medical universities in the province, it has 23 affiliated hospitals and has undertaken more than 1,000 State-level scientific research projects in recent years.
