May 15: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On May 14, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 4 new cases of confirmed infections (all are indigenous cases in Jilin province), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai municipality), and no deaths. 14 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 509 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 2.

As of 24:00 on May 14, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps had reported 1,692 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 1,646 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 46 confirmed cases (including 3 in serious condition) and 4 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on May 14, the National Health Commission had received reports of 82,933 confirmed cases and 4,633 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and in all 78,209 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 91 confirmed cases (including 11 in serious condition) and 4 suspected cases. So far, 738,691 people have been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 5,211 are now under medical observation.

On May 14, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 11 new asymptomatic cases (including 2 imported cases). 104 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 3 imported cases) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on May 14, 619 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 35 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on May 14, 1,536 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 1,051 in Hong Kong (4 had been dead and 1,009 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 45 in Macao (43 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 440 in Taiwan (7 had been dead and 383 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
