May 13: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On May 12, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 7 new cases of confirmed infections (6 indigenous cases in Jilin province and 1 imported case in Shanghai municipality), 1 new case of suspected infections (an indigenous case in Jilin), and no deaths. 18 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 455 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation.

As of 24:00 on May 12, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps had reported 1,692 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 1,628 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 64 confirmed cases (including 3 in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on May 12, the National Health Commission had received reports of 82,926 confirmed cases and 4,633 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and in all 78,189 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 104 confirmed cases (including 10 in serious condition) and 4 suspected cases. So far, 737,901 people have been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 5,317 are now under medical observation.

On May 12, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 8 new asymptomatic cases (including 1 imported case). 18 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 2 imported cases) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on May 12, 750 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 37 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on May 12, 1,532 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 1,047 in Hong Kong (4 had been dead and 991 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 45 in Macao (42 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 440 in Taiwan (7 had been dead and 372 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
