The cargo throughput of Yantai port in East China's Shandong province reached 79 million tons in the first quarter of 2020, up 6.3 percent from the same period last year.

The performance was a promising start for the port in 2020, despite the epidemic.

Yantai port cooperated with local shipping companies and opened a green channel for medical supplies to improve the efficiency of ship departure, cargo unloading, and document handling.

As of the end of March, the port received a total of 37 ships carrying imported epidemic prevention and control supplies.

In view of the limited road logistics transportation during the epidemic, Yantai port expanded its waterway transportation services and opened a new container shipping route from Yantai to Weifang.

At the same time, Yantai port has been promoting logistics integrating waterways, railways and roadways to ensure a regular supply of bauxite, fertilizer, sandstone, iron ore, and coal.

On Feb 18, the port completed the unloading of 317,000 tons of iron ores in 26 hours, hitting a world record in terms of the number of iron ores unloaded per hour.
