Distinguished guests give speeches at Qingdao Global Venture Capital Online Conference

A number of distinguished guests gave speeches at the Qingdao 2020 Global Venture Capital Online Conference, which was held on May 8-9.

Sponsored by the Qingdao municipal government under the guidance of the Asset Management Association of China, the event is designed to promote science and innovation as well as explore a new round of investment to support economic development amid the pandemic.

Due to the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic, the event was held online, with thousands of participants from around the world.

Marc Steiner, general counsel at Plug and Play discussed the innovative ecosystem in Silicon Valley and new global investment trends in the area. He said that Plug and Play has invested in more than 100 startups in China, and he is looking forward to more cooperation with start-ups in Qingdao and other areas in China.

Thomas J. Sargenta, Nobel laureate in economics in 2011, gave a keynote speech entitled "future financial challenges and opportunities for China and the world in 2020". He said that China's innovation has improved people's lives, and the Belt and Road Initiative, along with other creative approaches, has led to more financial and economic opportunities.

JP Gan, a founding partner of INCE Capital, said that in the past decade, the biggest change in IT has been the advent of mobile phone touch screens. "In the future, the way we interact with machines may be by voice, audio or video. As 5G advances, this will lead to a new round of development."

Guo Shaoquan, chairman and executive director at Bank of Qingdao, said that as a local legal person bank, the Bank of Qingdao will support Qingdao in becoming a global VC center and the world's industrial internet capital.
