Not sorting garbage properly, traveling in an uncivilized way, and spreading rumors will all be taken into consideration in Zhoushan's new credit system, and offenders will be subject to further penalties in multiple sectors, local authorities said.

The system is expected to be implemented within the year.

The point-based system will primarily consist of three indicators, namely, individual credit records on the provincial public credit information platform, individual behavior and personal honors.

Individuals will be classified into four grades according to their social credit scores, which will be updated annually. The specific standards will be formulated by the municipal development and reform department.

Incentives will be provided to those who achieve high scores. They will be entitled to preferential policies in terms of financing, tourism and education. For instance, those with a high social credit score will enjoy various discounts when purchasing tickets and booking hotels.
