Foreign volunteers in Guangzhou shared their stories during a salon held in Guangzhou's Tianhe district on May 6, one of the two pilot areas in Guangzhou for the construction of an international community that were established in November 2019.

Liu Baochun, director of the foreign affairs office of the Guangzhou municipal government, noted that Guangzhou carried out trade globally 2,000 years ago and the city has been popular for its openness.

Liu added that people from both China and foreign countries should work together in the fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

"Guangzhou is my home and I've lived here for 20 years. I have found a warm home here and have a lot of kind friends," said Lina Liana Tjahjadi, an Indonesian doctor working at Guangzhou Fuda Cancer Hospital of Jinan University. Tjahjadi is also an international volunteer in Tianhe district.

Other participants at the salon included Rufino Eugenio Guilherme from Angola, who studies at South China University of Technology. Guilherme has volunteered to participate in the COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control efforts in Huangpu district since April.
