Dalian, a port city in Northeast China’s Liaoning province, received 556,000 visitors during the past five-day May Day holiday, according to the Dalian Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism.

From May 1 to 5, tourists contributed a total of 655 million yuan ($92.48 million) in tourism revenue, the bureau said on May 5.

In order to promote the recovery and development of the city's cultural and tourism market, the bureau has recommended 32 good places to go for outings, 10 flower viewing resorts, 11 fruits picking sites and 15 seaside attractions.

Before the holiday, it has also produced 12 posters for Dalian spring tourism, which were broadcast at 336 bus stations, six LED large screens and shown in 83 fixed advertising spaces.

Officials said short-distance rural tourism has become the popular choice of many tourists and the sales revenue of rural leisure, mountain climbing outings and rural tourism has increased.

Officials said the city required online reservations for tours of tourist attractions.

Tourists were also required to show their health QR codes, travel cards, electronic tickets and have their body temperatures taken for safety before they entered attractions.

At the same time, the city's hotels and travel agencies also strictly implemented epidemic prevention and control requirements -- ensuring the health and safety of tourists, while providing high-quality catering, accommodation and guide services.
