Guangzhou active in global cooperation to fight COVID-19

Guangzhou has been active in supporting dozens of cities around the world since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in ways like sharing their experience in combating the disease and donating medical supplies.

"We have sent three batches of medical supplies to over 40 cities around the world, as well as several international organizations," said Liu Baochun, director of the foreign affairs office of the Guangzhou municipal government.

Guangzhou has been invited to participate in several international online seminars that aimg to share experiences in fighting against COVID-19 organized by organizations like UN Habitat, United Cities and Local Government (UCLG), the World Congress of Metropolis, and the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group.

Details about Guangzhou's anti-epidemic experience were shared in four of the seminars to help other cities win their fight against COVID-19.

Tang Xiaoping, director of the Guangzhou municipal health commission, has participated in two of the seminars.

"I think it is meaningful to share Guangzhou's experience through video communications," said Tang.

Testing kits produced by Guangzhou companies have played an important role in the fight against COVID-19. Companies like Guangzhou Wondfo Biotech Co Ltd and Daan Gene have donated more than 100,000 testing kits to countries like Kyrgyzstan and Iraq.

"The company has produced over 18 million testing kits by April 19 for over 70 countries and regions around the world," said Kang Keren, senior vice president of Wondfo.
