May 2: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On May 1, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 1 new case of confirmed infections (an imported case), 2 new cases of suspected infections (both are imported cases), and no deaths. 43 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 650 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 1.

As of 24:00 on May 1, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps had reported 1,671 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 1,207 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 464 confirmed cases (including 7 in serious condition) and 9 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on May 1, the National Health Commission had received reports of 82,875 confirmed cases and 4,633 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and in all 77,685 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 557 confirmed cases (including 37 in serious condition) and 11 suspected cases. So far, 733,733 people have been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 7,873 are now under medical observation.

On May 1, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 20 new asymptomatic cases (all are indigenous cases). 12 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 3 imported cases) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on May 1, 989 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 112 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on May 1, 1,513 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 1,039 in Hong Kong (4 had been dead and 859 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 45 in Macao (37 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 429 in Taiwan (6 had been dead and 324 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
