Amid further containment of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) epidemic, China is powering ahead in returning to work and resuming business and production. The following are the latest facts and figures:

— China's 5G development has achieved marked progress despite the disruptions brought by the COVID-19 epidemic, contributing to epidemic containment and production resumption.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, the country has seen faster and more extensive use of 5G in areas such as medical care, education and remote work.

The country's 5G sector has been developing at a fast clip since it greenlighted 5G commercial use last June, with over 198,000 5G base stations built by the end of March, and a string of 5G applications have also been put into use.

— China has completed the construction of more than 2.66 million houses to relocate 9.47 million people for poverty relief by the end of March, with occupancy rate reaching 99 percent.

By mid-April, the work to construct educational and healthcare facilities for 132 large-scale resettlement projects had been resumed as the COVID-19 epidemic began to wane.

— China will step up policy incentives to fuel new energy vehicle (NEV) production and sales, which bore the brunt of the COVID-19 outbreak in the first quarter.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will promote vehicle electrification in public sectors including public transportation, environmental sanitation, postal services and logistics.

Local governments are encouraged to increase subsidies for electricity use and strengthen the construction of NEV charging facilities.
