An intelligent garbage sorting station was established in the Jiaxiang Road community in Shinan district, Qingdao, Shandong province on April 13. It is the first such station to be introduced in the province.

In order to encourage residents to sort their garbage, the station will offer certain rewards to those who do it correctly. Residents can scan a QR code at the station and collect seals in mobile applets by properly sorting their garbage. After collecting 30 seals, they can be redeemed for small gifts.

Two community workers have been dispatched to teach residents how to correctly sort their garbage into the appropriate bins. Garbage bags should be placed into the bin for "other waste".

A sink, hand sanitizer, and hand dryers are also available at the station, as are ultraviolet lights, disinfection devices and smoke detectors.

To meet the city's requirement of having garbage collected only at certain times and locations, the station will be open for just 2 hours every morning and evening.

Local community workers started teaching locals about the station one week before it was established. All the residents loved the idea of the garbage stations and promised to begin sorting their garbage without hesitation.
