17 Hechi medical workers dispatched to Hubei return home

The sixth medical team that was dispatched from Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region to help combat the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak in Wuhan, Hubei province returned to Nanning, the capital city of Guangxi, on March 24.

The medical team is composed of 150 medical workers from all over Guangxi, including 17 from Hechi. After their arrival, they started a 14 day quarantine period in Nanning.

The team departed to Hubei on Feb 19, and formally took over the No. 11 fever wing at the Houhu branch of the Central Hospital of Wuhan on Feb 24.

The team received and treated a total of 34 patients, including 32 in severe condition and two in critical condition, of which 24 were cured and discharged from the hospital. None of the medical workers were infected.

"By participating in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic in Wuhan, I experienced the great sacrifice made by the heroic city and its people," said Ran Jingbing, an associate chief physician at the Department of Critical Care Medicine of the People's Hospital of Hechi. "I hope the epidemic will be cleared up as soon as possible, and that the people of Wuhan will return to a peaceful and prosperous life as early as possible."

As of March 24, Tang Cheng, head of the food and health conditions division of the Hechi Center for Disease Control and Prevention, still remains at his post in Shiyan, Hubei province.
