Tourism industry reports steady growth in 2019

China's tourism industry saw steady growth in 2019, according to a new report by the China Tourism Academy on Tuesday.

Domestic attractions received over 6 billion visits throughout the year, up 8.4 percent year-on-year, the report said.

Tourism-generated revenue reached 6.63 trillion yuan ($954 billion) last year, a rise of 11 percent over the previous year.

According to the report, Chinese tourists made about 155 million visits to overseas destinations in 2019, a rise of 3.3 percent year-on-year.

The inbound tourism market also registered an increase, with 145 million overseas visits made in 2019, up 2.9 percent year-on-year, according to the report.

Among them, 31.88 million visits were made by foreigners, up 4.4-percent year-on-year.

About 75.9 percent of the foreign visits were from Asia, and 35 percent of those foreign visits are for leisure and sightseeing, the report said.

Myanmar, Vietnam, South Korea, Russia, Japan, the United States, Mongolia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore are the top 10 source markets for China.
