On Jan 6, a group of Chinese white dolphins was spotted playing and swimming in the waters off Hailing Island in Yangjiang, Guangdong province. Local fishermen on motorboats observed more than 10 dolphins chasing, racing and leaping out of the sea, clearly enjoying their time in the water.
Known as the "pandas of the sea", Chinese white dolphins are a national first-class protected species. Their presence is not only a beautiful sight but also a sign of the healthy water quality in the area, as they are considered a "living indicator" of the marine environment.
