The coastal city of Qingdao, eastern Shandong province has been using a smart medical system to help with the diagnosis of pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus, local media reported.

The DUCG smart clinical auxiliary diagnosis platform is jointly developed by more than 30 experts from eight first-class hospitals in China.

The system, which integrates AI and medical diagnosis technologies, can be applied to clinical diagnosis. Experts proved that the accuracy rate is 95 percent.

Accordingly, the DUCG platform has been used in two second-class hospitals in Jiaozhou, 18 health-centers in towns, and more than 500 village clinics. As for Feb 3, the platform has provided remote diagnosis and treatment service for 173 potential cases, of which 44 suspicious cases were screened and eliminated.

The DUCG platform enjoys high screening efficiency, which can collect patients' chief symptoms and personal history for smart analysis. It also can achieve telemedicine service, which relieves the pressure of outpatient service in hospitals.

In recent years, Qingdao's artificial intelligence industry has achieved rapid development. The integration of AI technologies with other fields has proved to be a great success, especially in the medical and health industries, which has played an important role in helping novel coronavirus prevention and control. Officials said more efforts will also be made in the area.
