March 5: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On March 4, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 139 new cases of confirmed infections, 143 new cases of suspected infections, and 31 deaths (all in Hubei province). 2,189 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 6,584 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 464.

As of 24:00 on March 4, the National Health Commission had received 80,409 reports of confirmed cases and 3,012 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and in all 52,045 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 25,352 confirmed cases (including 5,952 in serious condition) and 522 suspected cases. So far, 669,025 people have been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 32,870 are now under medical observation.

On March 4, Hubei reported 134 new cases of confirmed infections (including 131 in Wuhan), 67 new cases of suspected infections (including 61 in Wuhan), and 31 deaths (including 23 in Wuhan). 1,923 patients were released from hospital after being cured, including 1,426 in Wuhan.

As of 24:00 on March 4, Hubei had reported 67,466 cases of confirmed infections (including 49,671 in Wuhan) and 2,902 deaths (including 2,305 in Wuhan). In all, 40,479 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital, including 26,316 in Wuhan. There still remained 24,085 confirmed cases (including 21,050 in Wuhan), with 5,788 in serious condition (including 5,342 in Wuhan), and 315 suspected cases (including 247 in Wuhan).

On March 4, the Chinese mainland reported 2 new imported confirmed cases from overseas (both in Zhejiang province). As of 24:00 on March 4, the Chinese mainland had reported 20 imported confirmed cases from overseas.

As of 24:00 on March 4, 156 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 104 in Hong Kong (2 had been dead and 43 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 10 in Macao (9 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 42 in Taiwan (1 had been dead and 12 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
