Total number of skilled workers
The number of all kinds of skilled workers in Chengdu totals about 4.88 million, ranking fourth in China. Among this number, there are 2.11 million regional professional and technical personnel, 28 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 121 national young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions and 2,756 experts with special allowances from the State Council.
Talent cultivation
There are a total of 56 universities and colleges with more than 810,000 registered students in Chengdu, including some world-renowned universities such as Sichuan University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Southwest Jiaotong University and Southwest University of Finance and Economics. These higher-level institutions supply around 260,000 graduate students to society every year. Chengdu has also established a diversified vocational education system. The number of full-range secondary vocational schools (including technical colleges) is 125, with registered students exceeding 280,000.
Talent innovation and entrepreneurship platform
Chengdu is building a regional innovation and entrepreneurship center with international influence, and has become one of China’s benchmark cities in these areas. China has formed a series of new hubs for innovation and entrepreneurship, with Beijing Zhongguancun Science Park in the north, Shenzhen Bay in the south, Shanghai Changyang Valley in the east, and Chengdu Jingrong Inno-hub in the west. Chengdu’s innovation incubation level has ranked among the top in the country.
There are 289 science and technology enterprise incubators and mass innovation and entrepreneurship spaces at all levels covering an area of 17.08 million square meters. Among these are 16 state-level science and technology enterprises incubators, four state-level university science and technology parks, 45 national mass innovation and entrepreneurship spaces, as well as 24 provincial science and technology enterprise incubators.
