Chengdu is a "National High-performance Fiber High-tech Industrial Base", and is home to many universities, scientific research institutions and well-known enterprises, such as Sichuan University, Southwest Jiaotong University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu Institute of Chemistry CAS, Galaxy Magnets, Chengdu GuiBao Science and Technology, Chengrand Research Institute of China National BlueStar, Jushi Group, Sinoma Science and Technology and Lu Chen New Materials Technology.
In recent years, in accordance with the guideline of "industrial-research integration which is application-driven with prominent features and of large scale", Chengdu has accelerated the development of the main businesses and key areas. Some internationally renowned companies have settled in Chengdu, such as Toray Industries Inc, China National Chemical Corporation, China National Building Materials Group Corporation, Evonik Degussa, DuPont and Dow Chemical Company. By 2022, it is intended that the prime operating revenue of Chengdu’s new materials industry will hit more than 100 billion yuan ($14.34 billion), and national-level new material engineering technology research and public service platforms will be set up, building Chengdu into an important national industry development base for new materials.
