Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co Ltd is a large Sino-foreign joint venture established in June 2000. The investors include the First Automobile Group in China, Tianjin FAW Charley Motor Co Ltd, Toyota Motor Corporation, and Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co Ltd. The ratio of Chinese to foreign shares is 50:50.
The registered capital of the company is 3.3 billion yuan ($471 million), covering an area of 1.61 million square meters, the largest overseas factory of the Toyota company. At present, the production capacity is 530,000 vehicles per year. Since 2002, the company has launched a series of products from economical cars to limousines, such as Vios, Corola EX, Crown, Reiz, Corolla and Corolla Hybrid, which can meet the various demands of consumers.
For many years, the company has kept its spot in the top 10 list of Tianjin's top 100 enterprises, and has been a leading enterprise in the Tianjin Economic and Technological Development Zone for seven consecutive years. The company was awarded the honorary titles of “Star Enterprise”, “Tianjin Advanced Foreign-invested Enterprise” and “Contribution Award for Social Responsibility” by the management committee of the zone.
