Hohhot marks launch of Mongolian dictionary

Hohhot -- capital city of North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region -- marked the 20th anniversary of the launch of the Mongolian Language Dictionary with an event held on Dec 10, according to local media reports.

The Mongolian Language Dictionary was compiled by the Mongolian language Institute of the Inner Mongolia Academy of Social Science and the Mongolian Language and Literature Department of Inner Mongolia Normal University.

It is the largest Mongolian interpretation dictionary published in China since the founding of the People’s Republic of China. It contains more than 70,000 Mongolian words, including more than 50,000 general words and more than 10,000 natural science and social science terms.

Experts say that since its publication, the dictionary has played a quite important role in the study and use of the Mongolian language.
