Jinan, East China's Shandong province was included among the top 10 Chinese cities again in terms of nighttime economy at an awarding ceremony on Dec 6.

The list was initiated by Tencent and supported by the Qingdao government and the Liaowang Institute of Xinhua. The top 10 cities were Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Changsha, Xi'an, Chengdu, Chongqing, Shijiazhuang, Jinan and Qingdao.

Jinan's nighttime economy is becoming a major draw for the city, largely due to a series of favorable policies.

Night touring alongside the city moat, a splendid light show at Daming Lake, booming night snack markets in the summer and longer hours for shopping malls have boosted the city's nighttime economy.

To add further fuel to the already burgeoning nighttime economy, the city is also striving to boost its traditional opera culture.

A weekly drama show featuring Jinan's traditional operas will take place at Beiyang Theatre every Saturday starting Dec 7. The performances include Peking Opera, Lyu Opera, Shandong Bangzi (Wooden Clapper Opera) and Laiwu Bangzi.

Beiyang Theatre, founded in 1905, is located at No 1 Tonghui Street, Jing'er Weisan Road and covers an area of 1,805 square meters.

It is the oldest opera venue in Jinan and the oldest professional theater in Shandong province.
