Ordos industrial base gains national status

The Equipment Manufacturing Base in Ordos, a city of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, was conferred with a plaque -- as a national foreign trade transformation and upgrading base (equipment manufacturing) -- by the Ministry of Commerce.

The award was conferred in Dongguan, a city in southern Guangdong province, on Dec 4.

Ordos Equipment Manufacturing Base became one of the 65 national foreign trade transformation and upgrading bases recognized by the Ministry of Commerce in 2019.

It was the only national foreign trade transformation and upgrading base selected in this batch in the autonomous region.

In recent years, relying on the location and industrial advantages of the base, Ordos has cultivated and expanded many leading industrial companies, gathered many innovative resources and promoted the improvement of the base's foreign trading capacity.

In 2016, 2017 and 2018, the base’s foreign trade volume respectively reached $932 million, $542 million and $787 million, accumulatively exporting more than 40 million mobile display screens, 79,300 Chery cars and 380 special vehicles.

Officials said that at present, the base's foreign trade volume could account for over 60 percent of the city's foreign trade.

According to local officials in the future, Ordos Equipment Manufacturing Base will continue to increase its efforts in investment promotion, innovation platform building and the coordinated development of industry.

They said it will also boost its efforts in university and research, improvement of intermediary services institutions, construction of public service platforms and the promotion of brands.

This will be to promote the high-quality development of foreign trade in the base and build the base up as a powerful engine -- to promote the transformation and upgrading of the city's economic structure.
