China to establish committee for UN Global Sustainable Transport Conference

The State Council released a circular on Oct 30, announcing the establishment of an organizing committee for the second United Nations Global Sustainable Transport Conference.

The responsibilities of the committee are as follows: lead the preparations and organization of the conference; deliberate on the conference’s overall plan and implementation plan; solve major problems in the organizing process; instruct related departments to prepare for the conference; invite other countries and international institutions, and complete other tasks assigned by the Party central committee and the State Council.

Vice-Premier Liu He will assume leadership of the committee, and State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi will serve as the deputy head.

Set at the Ministry of Transport and headed by its minister Li Xiaopeng, the committee’s office will be tasked with raising the conference’s overall plan and implementation plan, communicating with the UN and solving specific problems in the preparation.
