A smart eco-friendly city began to take shape in Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone -- also known as WHDZ -- according to a report in news portal cjn.cn.

The smart eco-friendly city, located in the central part of the WHDZ, has a planning area of 90 square kilometers.

Officials said it faces the golden Yangtze waterway to the east and the Tongshun River runs through it.

A total of 12 lakes -- including Chuanjiangchi Lake, Zhuangyuan Lake, and Guanlian Lake, as well as 11 hills including Dajun Mountain, Longling Mountain, Zhushan and Qilong Mountain -- are located in the area, making it the largest green urban lung in Wuhan.

The Jiuquwan Wetland and a 30 km ring hill road have been built within the 18.9 square kilometers Longlingshan Ecological Park. The park also planted 60,000 square meters of phlox subulata flowers, taking advantage of its hillside topography.

Over the past few years, high-end projects have been introduced to the area -- including Kingfa Science and Technology R&D Center, Wuhan CAS Advanced Technology Research Institute, and GXYJ’s e-commerce platform.

Officials estimated the total investment to be around 80 billion yuan ($11.3 billion).

They said that in the near future, the area will continue to introduce emerging industries.

It will focus on industries -- including the next generation of automobiles, new energy and new materials, new generation information technology and equipment -- and recruit professionals to boost regional economic growth.
