The 2019 Shengjing Bank Shenyang International Marathon was held in Shenyang, capital of Northeast China’s Liaoning province, on Sept 8.

Around 20,000 runners from 18 countries and regions participated in the event, which consisted of a full marathon, half-marathon, 10-km run, and mini-marathon.

This year’s event was hosted by the Chinese Athletes Association and the Shenyang municipal people’s government and organized by the Shenyang sports administration and the Heping, Shenhe, and Hunnan district governments.

Naibei Emmanuel from Kenya won the men’s full marathon with a time of 2 hr 16 min 27 sec, while Ruto Gladys Jebet, also from Kenya, clinched the top spot in the women’s full marathon with a time of 2 hr 44min 14 sec.

Dai Junfeng from Shenyang was the first Chinese runner to finish the full marathon, ranking 8th overall.

One hundred of the top runners have qualified to participate in the AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Championships, which will be held as part of the London Marathon in 2020.

The Shenyang marathon was first held in 2015 and has been held four times since, with more people participating each time. It was named an “excellent” marathon by the Chinese Athletes Association in 2017 and 2018.
