Ten of the entries on the first list of China's key rural tourism villages released by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on July, 28 are in Henan province.
Dongping village, Xixia county was the only Nanyang village on the list.
Dongping village is located at the east gate of Laojieling Mountain, a national 5A scenic spot.
With the No 331 inter-provincial highway running through it, Dongping village was identified as a key village of "the top 100 rich villages" project in Henan province in 2009.
It has a total area of 26,000 mu (1,733.33 hectares), of which 25,000 mu are covered by forests dominated by oaks and dogwood herbs. The forest coverage in the village is over 95 percent, which has made it a well-known summer resort.
Currently, Dongping village has more than 70 rural hotels and over 30 residential quarters. A cultural plaza, tourist park and other tourism facilities are located in the village, attracting tourists from all over the country.
