Wuhan Sports University, formerly known as South-Central Sports University, was set up in Jiangxi's Nanchang in 1953, and moved to Hubei's Wuhan in 1955, gaining its current name in 1956.
The university covers 121.37 hectares and over 17,000 students are on campus, including more than 1,300 postgraduate students. The university has opened 26 undergraduate majors and three are listed as national distinctive majors while four are provincial brand majors.
It started to offer postgraduate education in 1960, being one of the earliest in China to cultivate postgraduate students in sports.
The university has devoted great efforts to establish international cooperation and communication, forming friendly relationships with about 60 overseas educational and sports institutions. In 2014, it set up the only international gymnastics academy in the world.
