Zhanjiang, a coastal city in South China's Guangdong province, enjoys a favorable environment. The National Zhanjiang Marine Economic Development Demonstration Zone is expected to carry out a recycling model of economy development for the city's harbor steel and petrifaction industries, and to explore an integration mechanism for industry-university-research cooperation.
Over the years, Zhanjiang has developed a marine industrial system centering on harbor steel and petrifaction industries, covering marine equipment manufacturing, marine biopharmaceuticals, modern marine fishery, island tourism, ocean transport, harbor logistics and marine services. This system has laid a solid foundation for the establishment of the marine economic development demonstration zone.
Relying on advantages in marine resources, Zhanjiang has given priority to its harbor industry and advanced manufacturing. Zhanjiang Baosteel, which was built by Baosteel, one of China's largest steel manufacturers based in Shanghai, has become one of the most efficient green production bases for carbon steel in China.
During the period of the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20), Zhanjiang has pushed forward to achieve a balance between economic development and environmental protection, and stuck to the strategy of port-driven development to promote its advanced manufacturing industry.
