Vice-Premier Han Zheng stressed more efforts to accomplish the goal of helping 100 million migrants obtain urban household registration on July 18.

Han, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks at a teleconference on advancing household registration system reforms held in Beijing.

The reforms in recent years have been fruitful, with more than 90 million rural migrants having become urban residents, Han said.

He stressed that efforts should be made to grant urban household registration to rural migrants who work in cities.

Calling for further relaxation on urban household registration requirement, Han underlined exploration of policies that allow people to migrate from rural areas to cities in an orderly fashion.

The urban residential permit system should be fully implemented, Han said, adding that work should be done to ensure that migrants have equal access to basic public services.

Han also called on authorities to formulate supporting policies to guarantee the rights and interests of rural migrants.
