Liujiaxia Reservoir, in Yongjin county, and its broad expanse of fresh water attract visitors from near and far every summer, frolic and splash about in the wet stuff.

The reservoir is 80 kilometers from downtown Lanzhou. It takes around two hours to reach the reservoir by train from Lanzhou West Station.

Liujiaxia Reservoir was completed in 1974 as part of a hydro-power engineering project which generates electricity for Shaanxi, Gansu and Qinghai provinces.
