Heraklion, Ningbo become sister cities

Ningbo established friendship city relations with Heraklion, the largest city and capital of Crete, Greece, on July 11.

The two sides will cooperate in various areas, including economy, trade, education, tourism, shipping and sports, in order to bring about common development and prosperity.

Ningbo has been dedicated to the development of sports in recent years and has much to learn from Heraklion in this regard, with Greece being the home of the Olympic Games. Ningbo is especially eager to study water sports in Heraklion, as both cities are located along the coast, officials said.

In addition, there is great potential for cooperation in shipping, officials added, Heraklion being a well-known port city, while Ningbo is famous for the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, the world's largest port for cargo turnover.
