Shanghai will continuously expand opening-up, improve core competitiveness and promote the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region, Mayor Ying Yong said on Tuesday at a press conference called in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Taking the lead in the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, Shanghai will accelerate the construction of the Yangtze River Delta Integrated Development Demonstration Zone, the new expansion of the Shanghai Free Trade Zone and Hongqiao Business District.

Shanghai aims to achieve better results in the upcoming second China International Import Expo than last year. The expo has so far attracted more than 50 countries and 250 of the world's leading enterprises and expanded its total exhibition area to 300,000 square meters.

"Culture is the soul of a city," said Ying. To boost urban culture development, the city is opening up public space and stretching 45 kilometers on both sides of the Huangpu River. The public space is now equipped with fitness paths, bike lanes and various cultural facilities.
