Intl cycling race opens in Pingtan

The 2019 Ocean Cup China (Pingtan) International Cycling Tournament took place in Pingtan, an islet situated off the coast of Fujian province on June 30.

A total of 2,505 cyclists from 21 countries around the world participated in the race.

Rider from Luo Weiyu from Novatec Merida team seized the title in the men's road cycling elite group.

The Ocean Cup China (Pingtan) International Cycling Tournament has been held in Pingtan, Fujian province in June each year since 2014.

The tournament is the first of its kind to combine ocean culture with a cycling race. It is also a highlight of the city’s World Ocean Day promotional campaign, which falls on June 8 every year.

The three-day event calls on people to live a green and low-carbon lifestyle and helps Pingtan turn into an international tourism island.
