Rainbowfish (Zhoushan) Deep-sea Equipment Science and Technology Park opened its doors in the Putuo Ocean Ecology Innovation Valley in Zhoushan, in Zhejiang province, on June 20.
The park covers an area of 22,000 square meters. A planned investment of 120 million yuan ($17.49 million) will be devoted to its construction. It now accommodates eight companies focusing on deep-sea equipment development.
With the integration of the Yangtze River Delta region being elevated to a national strategy, Zhoushan and Shanghai have broader room for cooperation in ocean technology, officials said.
The park, initiated by Shanghai Rainbowfish Ocean Technology Co, began construction in 2017. It is designed to attract global research resources, financial capital and services agencies to locate there – providing one-stop services for R&D and the sale of marine equipment.
The park will be the main platform for Putuo district to develop its emerging marine industries, local officials said.
According to a spokesman for Shanghai Rainbowfish Ocean Technology Co, the park will focus on four industries: ocean information technology, high-tech materials for ocean engineering, military-civilian integration of ocean equipment and ocean bio-pharma.
Officials said the opening of the park marks a great boost for Putuo Ocean Ecology Innovation Valley in high-end ocean equipment manufacturing.
The Valley has been promoting innovation in recent years to advance its growth. It has so far attracted 1.5 billion yuan in investment and 82 companies have located operations there.
The Valley, together with Putuo Big Health Park, Putuo Bay Makerspace Dock and Shenjiamen Fishing Port Town, are major innovation platforms in Putuo district that are driving local economic transformation and upgrading, officials said.
