Festival to treat Guangzhou citizens with cultural feasts

The Guangzhou Citizen Cultural Festival kicked off this year's event on June 12 at Canton Tower, with more than 1,000 activities due to be held over six months across the city to treat millions of its citizens with cultural feasts. 

Under the guidance of Guangzhou's publicity department and organized by the city's culture, radio, television and tourism bureau, the 2019 Guangzhou Citizen Cultural Festival will be themed around the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. It will contain five main parts: shows by citizens, competitions, Lingnan culture celebrations, fashion, and classics. There will also be painting and calligraphy exhibitions. 

The Lingnan culture part will feature the traditional Lingnan practices of Guangzhou embroidery, Guangzhou ceramics, intangible cultural heritages, dragon boat races, opera shows, and other folk custom events.

This year's cultural festival will bring together many fine folk culture projects and innovations in Guangzhou from recent years, including several classic projects that have won national, provincial, and municipal awards.
