Shandong Cancer Hospital, also known as Shandong Provincial Institute of Cancer Prevention, was founded in 1958 and is a 3A-grade hospital mainly offering medical treatment, teaching and training, scientific research, and disease prevention.
With a combined floor area of 162,000 square meters, the hospital holds 1,950 patient beds. The annual outpatient amount of the hospital exceeds 150,000 person-times.
It currently has 40 clinical departments centering on tumor radiotherapy, surgical oncology, medical oncology, and gynecologic cancer. The department of radiation oncology is listed as the national key clinical specialty.
A treatment system combining surgery, radiation oncology, chemotherapy, traditional Chinese medicine, biotherapy, interventional therapy, and minimally invasive technology has been established in the hospital to provide patients with the best medical services.
Over the past few years, the hospital has undertaken more than 300 projects at all levels and won over 20 awards at or above the ministerial and provincial levels, including three second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Awards, and six first prizes of the Shandong Provincial Science and Technology Progress Awards. The annual average number of papers published by the hospital included in the Science Citation Index (SCI) surpasses 140.
The hospital is the training center for the master's and doctoral degree programs of clinical medicine for 11 universities around the country, including Shandong University, Sichuan University, Tianjin Medical University, Wuhan University, Southeast University, Zhengzhou University, Air Force Medical University, China Medical University, and University of Jinan.
The hospital has been strengthening its domestic and international cooperation and exchanges in recent years. Long-term and close business partnerships have been established with medical institutions in the United States, Britain, Russia, and Japan. It has become sister hospitals with the MD Anderson Cancer Center in the United States.
