The city of Ordos in Inner Mongolia autonomous region broke a new record in the numbers of tourists during the past Dragon Boat Festival holiday, according to a local media report.

Statistics showed that the city welcomed 1.01 million tourists during the three-day holiday, a year-on-year increase of 8 percent.

The booming tourism revenue generated during the past holiday reached 670.11 million yuan ($96.9 million), a hefty 10.2 percent increase for the same period last year.

Most of the tourists came from the city’s neighboring provinces and cities, such as Shaanxi and Shanxi provinces, Ningxia Hui autonomous region, and other cities in Inner Mongolia.

Officials said the city also saw an increasing number of visitors from Beijing, Tianjin and the Yangtze River Delta region, possibly because of previous tourism roadshows organized by the Ordos authorities in these regions.

A total of eight scenic spots in Ordos received more than 10,000 tourists during the past holiday, with Ordos Wildlife Park turning out to be the most popular tourist destination.
