A bridge crossing the iconic Qiantang River officially started construction in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, on May 31, local media reported.

As a major part of the Hangzhou section of the Shanghai-Hangzhou-Ningbo Expressway, the 1350.8-meter cross-river railway bridge will become an important route for Hangzhou residents by connecting key transportation hubs, including Xiaoshan International Airport and Hangzhou railway stations.

Designed in the shape of the tidal bore of the Qiantang River, the bridge will allow Hangzhou residents to appreciate the beautiful scenery of the river from the seat of a train.

The bridge is expected to be completed by 2022.
