The education department of Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province recently launched a three-year action plan to strengthen the application of information technology in education.
The city will first enhance the school networks and strive to realize wireless network coverage in all schools by the end of 2020.
It will also attempt to establish at least 10 model digitalized schools by 2021 which will feature advanced multimedia devices and an intelligent school management platform.
A paperless registration system has been applied for students to easily enroll online, and an IT-based platform integrating teaching, research and training will be established later this year to allow teachers on remote islands to hold classes and participate in training sessions online.
A synchronized lecturing program has been implemented to enable six rural schools on remote islands to hold synchronized online lectures with urban schools. The program is expected to cover all rural schools by 2021, according to the plan.
The city will also promote courses which will teach students about artificial intelligence, virtual robots, animation design and programming, among other computer-based skills.
The plan will see at least two schools become provincial pilot schools for the application of educational robots by 2021.
