An important event to boost economic and cultural cooperation and exchanges between Shenyang in Northeast China's Liaoning province and South Korea – Shenyang-South Korea Week -- kicked off in Shenyang New World Expo Center on May 23.

Organizers said the landmark event would run until May 29.

Activities during the week-long activity include a commercial match-making meeting for the automobile industry, an exhibition of South Korean commodities, the Shenyang Xita Food Festival and a music performance featuring traditional elements from China and South Korea.

Organizers said a highlight of the event was a summit on the future development of vehicles – with representatives from both sides discussing the transformation and upgrading of renewable energy vehicles -- and the development trends of the entire industry.

Shenyang, as a vehicle manufacturing base in Northeast China, has set itself the goal of becoming  a key renewable vehicle manufacture center in China.

Last November, Shenyang City issued a policy to promote the development of renewable energy vehicles, pointing the way forward for the development of the sector.

In 2018 Shenyang's renewable energy automobile industry showed a rapid development trend, with a total of 21,647 vehicles manufactured in the city. It is estimated that this year's new energy vehicle production will exceed 50,000.

At present, there are about 6,000 new energy vehicles operating in Shenyang.
