Jingmen High-Tech Industrial Development Zone was founded in 2000 as a provincial-level development zone approved by the Hubei provincial government. It was upgraded to a national-level development zone in 2013 with the approval of the State Council.
The zone aims to become a demonstration area for the recycling economy and the most attractive regional resource recycling industrial park in Midwest China. It is devoted to emerging as a world-class resource recycling base, a globally renowned industrial-purposed non-woven fabrics production base, a nationally renowned sports goods production base, a green food base, a general aviation industrial base and a regional hub for equipment manufacturing and the optoelectronic industry.
Located in the center of Hubei province, the zone is close to Wuhan in the east, Yichang in the west, Jingzhou in the south and Xiangyang in the north. It is well connected to the rest of the country with a dense network of railways and highways as well as four airports in Wuhan, Yichang, Xiangyang and Shashi. It is near the Three Gorges Hydro Power Station and forms a hub of the nation's major power transmission grids.
