The Dapukou container terminal in Jintang Port Area, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, recently opened a new shipping line to countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), local media reported on May 13.

The line plans to run one shift per week between China, Singapore, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

A Singaporean container liner arrived at the terminal on May 12 to discharge 6,527 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of cargo.

With this new line, the terminal now has nine lines to BRI countries, among its total of 14.

The lines have significantly contributed to the growth of cargo turnover in the terminal.

Statistics from Zhoushan Customs show that the Dapukou terminal handled 1.23 million TEUs last year, up 20.51 percent year on year.
