Quzhou witnesses vastly improved environment quality

Quzhou in East China's Zhejiang province witnessed the largest fall in average concentration of PM2.5 in China in 2018, according to a report recently released by China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment.

Statistics provided by the city's bureau of ecology and environment showed that in 2018, the average concentration of the city's fine particulate matter (PM 2.5), PM 10, nitrogen dioxide (NO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2) was slashed by 21.4 percent, 15.6 percent, 5.9 percent, and 42.9 percent respectively year-on-year.

The number of good air days in Quzhou last year totaled 324, seven more days compared to 2017.

Quzhou attached great importance to environmental improvement in 2018.

The city renovated 629 small-sized companies with low resource utilization and 102 companies discharging volatile organic chemcials, shut down 44 businesses with extreme overcapacity, and completed five transformation projects of purifying exhaust gases.

Quzhou has rolled out a plan for environment improvement in 2019. This year the city will shut down 40 more companies with outdated capacity and promote the use of new energy vehicle and construction of natural gas pipelines.
