China's first public digital identity service platform for residents on both sides of the Straits started operations in Pingtan during the Second Digital China Summit, which opened in Fujian province's Fuzhou May 6.

The service platform was jointly launched by the First Research Institute of the Ministry of Public Security, the administrative committee of Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone and Fujian Newland Digital Technology Co Ltd, a company managing the development and manufacturing of products relating to data collection, mobile communications and payment devices.

Benefiting from Cyber Technology ID (CTID) technology, the platform allows people on both sides of the Straits to enjoy the convenience of using digital identity cards in situations such as obtaining medical treatment, travelling and using public transport.

The platform allows elderly people from Taiwan to enjoy the same preferential treatment services as Pingtan locals, and Taiwan youths can use It to show their qualification certificates while seeking job opportunities on the Chinese mainland after linking their information to the platform.
