The Putuoshan Airport in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, opened a direct air line on May 1 to Yantai in East China's Shandong province, the third city in Shandong to be connected to Zhoushan by a direct air route after Qingdao and Jinan.

Putuoshan Airport now operates 14 air lines connecting Zhoushan with 18 cities, with the number of weekly flights hitting more than 260.

The Zhoushan-Yantai air line runs a round trip every day, departing from Zhoushan at 11:40 and arriving in Yantai at 13:25, and then leaving Yantai at 14:45 and reaching Zhoushan at 16:39.

Thanks to the rapid economic and social development of Zhoushan in recent years, Putuoshan Airport has maintained a 20 percent year-on-year passenger throughput increase for five consecutive years. It also ranks among the top airports in Zhejiang in average annual growth of passenger throughput.

Since the establishment of the China (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone in the city two years ago, the airport has seen rapid operational expansion. Its passenger flow hit one million for the first time in 2017, and reached 1.2 million in 2018, ranking 87th among the 235 domestic civil aviation airports.

In the first quarter of this year, the airport handled 335,000 passengers, up 17 percent from a year earlier.
