Geographically speaking, Sanmenxia sits at the intersection of the Qinling Mountains, the Loess Plateau and the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River plains.

The Yellow River run 200 kilometers from west to east, creating many famous and picturesque mountains and rivers, such as the Western-Henan Grand Canyon, Dragon Bay, Yuhuang Mountain, Ganshan Mountain, Yangshao Grand Canyon, Danxia Gorge scenic park near the Yellow River, Yawu Mountain, Snow Valley and Jiulong Mountain.
