Summit on seabuckthorn industry held in N China

The China Seabuckthorn Ecological Poverty Alleviation (Hohhot) Summit was held in Hohhot, capital of Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on April 27.

The summit was attended by Chen Shuxian, chairman of the China Green Foundation; Hu Peixing, deputy director of the desertification department of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration; Qiao Yun, an official of the Forestry and Grassland Administration of Inner Mongolia; and other representatives from regional agricultural and technological institutions.

Vice-mayor of Hohhot Huang Jigang said the summit aims to share Qingshuhe county's experiences in planting and protecting seabuckthorn. He added that the industry has helped accelerate poverty alleviation in the area.

Huang also called for more private companies to participate in the seabuckthorn industry.

Luo Youqing, president of Beijing Forestry University, delivered a report on establishing ecological barriers in northern China, stressing the importance of environmental protection.

During the event, an agreement of intent to protect seabuckthorn was signed between Qingshuihe county, the China Green Foundation, and Yuhangren, a local seabuckthorn company.
